FAQs

  • What is a retirement community? +

A retirement community lifestyle provides the active retiree with an affordable, spacious private living unit along with other facilities and access to services to assure each resident that his/her needs will be met. The well planned retirement community includes a wide variety of social and recreational opportunities so each person can pursue his/her own interests in a positive setting that offers convenience, variety, security and companionship.
  • When is the time for me to start thinking about Westhills Village? +

It is best to begin thinking of Westhills Village while you are still very active, independent and able to come and go as you please. The earlier you come into Westhills Village, the longer you are able to take advantage of and enjoy all of the benefits of living in a retirement community setting. Many of our residents enjoy traveling and a wide variety of community activities including clubs and civic organizations, artistic and cultural activities such as concerts, symphonies, plays, sporting events and much more.
  • How much does it cost? +

Westhills Village is all about choices. The first option is a life care contract. The cost of the contract depends on the size of the Apartment that you desire. There are two contracts from which to choose -- the Original Plan and the Return on Investment.  The Resident puts a 5% deposit down when filling out the application and pays the remainder of the contract upon move-in. The deposit is 100% refundable up until the time you move in.  A monthly service fee covers one meal per day in the Dining Room; housekeeping every other week; weekly laundering of flat linens and towels; Apartment maintenance; all utilities except telephone; cable TV; and the use of all of the Village's amenities.  A portion of the Residence Fee paid becomes a credit against your bill when you are no longer able to live in your apartment and need either Assisted Living or Health Care on a permanent basis.  This credit amount never runs out. A lease option is also available on our Apartments that does not involve the upfront investment.  The lease involves a security deposit, which varies with the size of the Apartment, and a monthly service fee that covers the same services as listed above.  An incentive is offered if you choose to switch from a lease to a contract within the first year of living at Westhills Village.
  • Do I have to turn over all of my assets to Westhills Village? +

Westhills Village does require a financial statement, but Residents continue to be in charge of their own assets.  We do this to make sure that all who come into Westhills Village have the financial stability to maintain the same lifestyle to which they are accustomed.
  • I'm interested in Westhills Village. What do I do now? +

The next step is to complete and submit an application, along with a 5% Application Fee, up to a maximum of $6,000.  This fee is completely refundable at any time prior to move-in.  Within 90 days of moving into Westhills Village, approved applicants must provide a physician-completed Physician Information Form that states they are capable of independent living. If you have further questions or would like to receive an application, please contact the Marketing Department at (605) 342-0255.
  • What are the criteria for entering Westhills Village? +

Applicants must be at least 62 years of age and their own personal physician must certify in writing that they are capable of independent living. This means that the Applicant must be in reasonably good health and able to function safely in an Apartment or Villa setting.
  • What if I need Health Care services? +

As a Resident of Westhills Village, you will be given priority for temporary or long-term admission to the Health Care facility.
  • Who lives at Westhills Village? +

People like you. People who have worked hard all their lives. People who have planned for their retirement years and want the very best out of them. A typical resident wishes to be set free from the worry of maintaining a home; to be set free from the loneliness that can come from living alone; to be set free from the fear of an accident or health problem that cannot receive prompt and appropriate attention. Westhills Village offers the opportunity for planned retirement living that allows a retiree to enjoy a secure and fulfilling retirement.
